Intel, my career, my home for so many years...
It's been an awesome journey and there has been so much more positive than negative... I find it hard to belive that I'm now at this inflection point. The good news is that, to a certain extent, I've made peace with the idea that I might be living the last few weeks/months in this great company.
Exactly 14 years tomorrow;
I started at the Amsterdam Logistic's Center on May 1st 2005. I worked for the Logistics Group during a bit more than 3 years, always in Amsterdam but in a couple of different roles.
Then, changed country and roles and move to Portland (OR) for another 4 years in TMG related groups (System Mfg, first, and GSM later).
Finally, in the summer of 2012, we came to Munich, to a Division (a PnL group with products). Since then, multiple roles but always linked to the Cellular Modem Division.
It sounds great, right? What was the sour part on all this you wonder?
Well, if I'm being really honest, there has been quite a few ups and downs during my time in Munich. One of the hardest time was when I came back to work after my maternity and my manager took a very patronizing actitud towards me. I endured and, eventually, got over it as I changed managers and started a good uplifting journey that lasted about 3 years.
Finally, about 1.5 years ago, in November 2017, a big re-org was announced for my Finance group. Almost all Finance positions were shifted to US (OR and/or SC) and Intel's SSC. 75% of my colleages were given VSP's and they left; my manager amongst them.
I was happy; I had duged a bullet coming straight at me and, as result, I was even getting a new position which seemed like a promotion.
Soon after that, changes kept hapening that were impacting me... To summarize, I went through 3 different roles in 2018 and, for about 1.5 months, I didn't have a role or even an indication of what might come later. I finally got another role; an interesting one even: Roadmap Specialist.
It has lasted 7 months! Last week, Intel announced that we are exiting the 5G Phone business and so my role is no more.
My manager (interim as my official one is on bonding leave) has already told me to start looking for a new job because I don't have one any more. However, if I want to stay in Munich, what are really the opportunities at Intel? Close to none.
Modem business was the biggest business in Germany.
